Smartphones are increasingly common across all age groups. Mobile phones have become essential tools for work, communication, search, and entertainment. The production of mobile phones relies on various cables, including electronic wires used in manufacturing and commonly used cables such as charging cables, headphone cables, data cables, flashing/sync cables, and multifunction cables. Among these, electronic wires, charging cables, and headphone cables are used most frequently. Precise outer-diameter measurement of mobile cables contributes to consistent product quality.
Measurement of mobile cable outer diameter can be performed with a single-channel diameter gauge. A single-channel diameter gauge supports photoelectric measurement and provides nondestructive online measurement, enabling dimensional inspection and process control. It helps maintain product quality while supporting faster measurement throughput, making it a commonly used instrument for cable measurement.
A single-channel diameter gauge integrates optical, mechanical, electronic circuit, communication, and computer software technologies. The instrument consists of the diameter gauge body, a mounting bracket, and an external display.
The device can perform real-time control of the measured object's outer diameter. The gauge body contains one photoelectric measurement head capable of measuring object diameter. It provides display, calculation, and alarm functions, including audible and visual alarms when measured values exceed set limits.
The measurement head is the core component of the diameter gauge. Its function is to form a clear image of the measured object on the CCD chip and to collect and amplify the electrical signal output from the chip. The measurement head mainly comprises an emission lens and a receiving lens.
In practical use, the optical system of the measurement head requires rigorous calculation and design to minimize imaging errors and achieve clear image edges. After each measurement head is installed, it is calibrated using a dedicated measurement-head scale calibrator to perform scale calibration and correct nonlinearity errors. After scale calibration and nonlinearity correction, the optical measurement head of a single-channel diameter gauge can achieve a maximum accuracy of 0.003 mm.
