Battery and daily charging
The Apple Watch is well regarded, but battery life is a common complaint. Most Apple Watch users charge the device every day, and charging it before sleep has become a routine for many.
Existing charging options
Some users rely on the bundled magnetic charging cable. There are also a variety of third-party charging docks for the Apple Watch, many of which offer distinctive designs but still lack a more striking appearance.
LIFT magnetic levitation charging stand
LIFT is a magnetic levitation wireless charging stand designed for smartwatches. It is marketed as one of the first consumer smartwatch chargers to use magnetic levitation: when an Apple Watch or a Pebble smartwatch is placed on LIFT, the watch is suspended above the base and receives power via inductive charging.
Design and power management
The LIFT enclosure is made from aluminum and incorporates a medical-grade ceramic induction system. With its internal battery, LIFT can charge two smartwatches without being connected to external power, and it can also provide emergency wireless charging for compatible smartphones. The unit includes charging protection that stops charging when the battery is full to prevent overcharging.
Secondary lighting function
When not being used to charge devices, LIFT functions as an LED desk lamp. In combination with the Orb wireless smart lamp, the assembly can be configured to float while providing illumination.
Crowdfunding and availability
LIFT launched a crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter with a starting pledge of $149 (about RMB 995). The project listed an expected shipping date of October 2016.
