Samsung Galaxy Note7 Review: Design and Key Features

Since the first generation in 2011, the Samsung Galaxy Note series has evolved through five generations and established itself as a durable design lineage. For its sixth generation Samsung named the product Note7, aligning its numbering with the S series. The Note7 reshapes many classic Note traits and updates expectations for modern smartphones.

S Pen and core DNA

Alongside the large screen, the Note series has always been defined by the S Pen. Each generation improves the S Pen in both hardware and features. The new S Pen in the Galaxy Note7 receives another round of upgrades. At the same time, Note7 integrates traits from previous Note and S models while adding new experiences such as more refined body craftsmanship, a dual curved display, and iris recognition.

Body design: refined curvature

Samsung returned to frosted glass after a brief detour in 2014, and that design language has been widely accepted. The Galaxy Note7 continues with frosted glass while refining many details.

During the Galaxy S6 and Note5 era, some design details still needed improvement, such as frame rounding and camera edge transitions. Samsung addressed these issues with the Galaxy S7, raising the manufacturing level. The newly released Galaxy Note7 pays special attention to these details as well. The edges are noticeably more rounded and the camera edge treatment is smoother, improving both visual impression and in-hand feel.

The most visible change is that the Note7 incorporates edge display characteristics by adopting a dual curved screen. Samsung did not offer separate flat and curved versions; instead the Note7 ships with the curved display as the standard, concentrating the strong traits into a single version. Both front and back are curved, giving the phone a droplet-like side profile that enhances aesthetics and ergonomics.

Samsung offers the Galaxy Note7 in gold, silver, black, and a newly tuned blue that appears very transparent and will attract many users.

Overall weight is close to the Note5, dropping from 171 g to 169 g, a difference that is not noticeable in hand. Visually the Note7 appears slightly narrower and more compact than the Note5, and this small change improves comfort and handling.

The Galaxy Note7 is rated IP68 for water and dust resistance, so it can be used in the rain without concern under normal conditions.
