Capacitors (C), inductors (L), and resistors (R) are the passive electronic components most commonly used in product design. Overview
An LCR meter measures inductance, capacitance, resistance, and impedance. The name originates from traditional impedance measurement methods. Although modern analog and digital techniques have largely replaced the original methods, the term "LCR meter" remains in use. Instruments that use a microprocessor-based LCR bridge are commonly referred to as LCR meters or LCR bridges.
Structure and Function
An LCR meter is primarily composed of an AC signal generator and a measurement unit. During measurement, the instrument applies an AC signal of a specified frequency to the device under test and measures the voltage across the device. By analyzing the signal frequency, amplitude, and phase difference, the LCR meter calculates the impedance characteristics of the component.
Test Signal
LCR meters typically use a sine wave as the test signal. Sine waves have stable amplitude and period, which makes them suitable for measuring electrical characteristics. The test frequency can be adjusted within a certain range to match the characteristics of different devices under test.
