Manufacturing Summary

This flexible PCB order required material and feature adjustments to achieve manufacturable construction. The original specification called for 50 µm dielectric with double-sided electromagnetic film at a finished thickness of 0.15 mm, which exceeded available process capability and material stock. Shengyi SF202 was substituted, resulting in an FPC plus electromagnetic film total thickness of 0.25 ± 0.05 mm. An FR4 stiffener was also applied with outline and clearance modifications.

DFM review identified several critical points. Two holes showed plated definition yet possessed via pads only on the bottom side, which would have produced non-plated results; top-side pads and openings were added so both holes could be processed as plated. The FR4 stiffener outline matched the board perimeter and lacked clearance holes, risking coverage of existing holes and protrusion during assembly. The flexible PCB stiffener outline was inset 0.15 mm, larger holes (3.175/0.9 mm) received 3.5/1.2 mm clearance openings, and 0.38 mm holes remained without stiffener clearance.

Confirmed material substitution, via pad additions, and stiffener geometry changes were implemented prior to production. The adjusted stackup and clearance features ensured reliable flexibility, plating integrity, and assembly fit. Full verification confirmed the boards met the revised thickness and mechanical requirements.
